Notes: Made for waywardmixes's eleventh challenge: mythology. Most of the Iliad is really fucking boring, lbr, but Achilles and Patroclus are one of the few good bits, and by good I mean crying tears of blood over their fate. I might be biased but I think this is one of my favourite mixes that I made for this comm, I can't stop listening to it. I'm afraid Achilles stole the show like the drama queen that he is so more than a shippy mix this is about Achilles's feelings for Patroclus and how he fucks up everything and gets Patroclus killed and then cries about it. It's Greek mythology, so you know the warnings: people slaughter each other brutally and everyone dies in the end.

About Achilles is the son of the sea nymph Thetis and king Peleus, and he's described like the greatest Greek hero. "Hero" is Greek for "acts like a big jerk". Patroclus is his older cousin some scholars argue that "cousin" is Greek for "they were fucking like bunnies", proving that some very serious people have been arguing for centuries over whether their favourite ship was canon or not, one of the few characters in Greek mythology portrayed as sweet and caring. Their story has several sources, but I based this mix on the events of the Iliad, an epic poem allegedly composed by Homer some three thousand years ago. The Iliad is about the Greeks laying siege to the city of Troy. A central theme in the poem is Achilles's rage: feeling that his pride was hurt by the other Greek captains, Achilles refuses to continue fighting. Patroclus is moved when he sees their comrades wounded and killed by the Trojans, and leads the army into battle wearing Achilles's armour. He manages to push the Trojans away from the Greek camp but he's killed by Hector. Achilles is devastated by his friend's death. He's warned that if he avenges Patroclus his own death will soon follow, but he doesn't care. He rejoins the fighting and kills Hector in revenge, and only after many days his rage is placated.
